san diego ups and downs

last week i was in san diego for my face-2-face class sessions for school and to attend a conference. it was good times and it was bad times. i’ll start with the good…

highlights

• seeing my classmates again. we’re online together a lot, but we only get to “see” each other every other month. they’re a great group of people and it’s always fun hanging out with them.
• hanging out with my cousin iris who i haven’t seen since last christmas. i stayed at her place for a couple nights and got to meet her friends who made dinner every night : ). also got to watch the movie “lars and the real girl” which was very sweet, a little slow, but sweet.
• visiting high tech high school… the coolest school EVER. i blogged about it in OER360.

lowlights

• the travelling part really sucked. i was on the road for 13 hours getting to san diego from east lansing and for 9 hours getting back home. i hate flying.
• getting food poisoning from a nasty burrito. i puked and i had major body aches the whole next day. my stomach has not been the same since. my co-workers say that it may have been a stomach-flu bug going around since a couple other people have had it. in any case, i hate puking and it was not fun.
• the conference was not very relevant so it was hard to keep focused.

so s.d. had its moments… good and bad. it is a beautiful city though and i would love to go back and visit the museums and sea world and the aquarium. on a slightly ditzy note… when i got to my friend’s house the first night, i asked her “what’s that big lake near downtown that i passed on my way here from the airport?” she looked at me funny and was like, “you mean the pacific ocean?” i was like, “oh… yeah. that one…” you know you have been in michigan way too long when all large bodies of water are lakes to you. in my defense, it is a harbor and it is surrounded by an island, so at night it could definitely look like a lake.
